Two years after the initial disc, Barry Scott returned with The Lost 45s Of The '70s & '80s Volume Two featuring eighteen more Top 40 singles that were hard to find on compact disc at the time. Barry closes out his extensive liner notes with this prophecy:
Nearly fourteen years later and there still hasn't been a third volume in the series (more than likely due to changes within the industry than lack of effort) but that hasn't stopped fans from dreaming up tracklists for future volumes like this one posted last April Fool's Day:
- "Old Fashioned Boy (You’re The One)" - Stallion #37/1977
- "Double Dutch Bus" [single edit] - Frankie Smith #30/1981

The consensus from various collectors forums seems to be that there are about a hundred songs that, while making the Top 40, have yet to be released on compact disc. In all, 9,513 records made Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart between 1970-1989 with 4,589 of those rising into the Top 40 so we're looking at a pretty excellent 98% availability rate. HERC can live with that. Still, those 2% would complete the collection and HERC feels your pain Barry Scott. And these numbers don't even factor in those TRUE single versions, those unique to the 45 edits like practically every track listed above, which have yet to appear on compact disc.

Despite having four more tracks than it's predecessor, this is the weaker of the two discs for HERC. He liked half of the songs on the first disc but only a third of the tracks (pictured above and below this paragraph) on Volume Two. If you just want the songs on a CD-R with inkjet printed artwork and liner notes, go to Barry's site or select Collectible option on the disc's Amazon listing.
Only eleven of the eighteen tracks are available on Spotify and most of those are the album versions rather than the single edits found on this CD. A little bit is better than nada, no?
