Summer In Stereo #65

This sun-kissed slacker anthem is another one of those songs that screams Summer for HERC.  He digs on some of the dumb lyrics like:
indulging in my self defeats...
impaired my tribal lunar-speak...
so I missed a million miles of fun...
l-a-t-e-r that week...
and his favorite
my sticky paws were into making straws out of big fat slurpy treats...
But the secret to the song isn't the nonsensical lyrics nor the laid back whisper-shout rap style in which they are delivered. The secret sauce of the song is that incessant piano riff and woodblock loop from Andrea True Connection's "More, More, More".  HERC loves that song - still owns his original 45 with Part I on one side and Part II on the other that he bought when he was 10 years old - and he's not adverse to hearing old music in a new context.  What he's having a hard time with is that 2014 is the fifteenth anniversary of "Steal My Sunshine".

  1. Still a very good song. Both of them.

  2. Herc, I totally agree - that riff is really what gets you right from the start and sticks with you through out this song. This is definitely one of those cool summer time songs.
