Summer In Stereo: LIFE ON THE LAKE WITH DJ RICHIE P

The first in a series of a few Summer-themed guest posts here at The Hideaway comes from DJ Richie P, vinyl archivist over at Fun With Vinyl

Ahhhhh summer!  What does it mean to you?  A day at the beach?  A walk in the park?  School's out?  Whatever it is, summer usually connotates a happy time.  For the Fun-family it means that we move to our lake home and spend a great deal of time on the water.  The Fun-wife and I enjoy puttering around the lake on our deck boat, while the Fun-son and his friends prefer zipping around on the jet skis.

Here's a little history about our summer paradise...  It is located on the banks of Lake Blackshear in southwest Georgia.  Lake Blackshear is a man-made lake on the Flint River that was created in 1930 by the damming of the Flint to provide low cost power to local citizens.  The lake borders five counties and contains approximately 8,700 acres, has 97 miles of shoreline, an average depth of 11 feet, and an average width of 3/4 mile.  Late in the summer of 2008 my family had the opportunity to purchase a home on Lake Blackshear and we jumped at it.  Initially, it was a weekend getaway and we didn't "live" there for any period of time. Our time there eventually began to extend and extend and extend.  Until, we finally decided to just "move" there each spring and stay until late fall/early winter.  Once the Fun-wife and I are able to retire, it will become our year-round home.

So, as I said before, our favorite pastime is to just putter around on the lake, enjoy some adult beverages and, of course, listen to some music.  We have created a playlist on the iPod just for listening on the boat.  Most of the songs fit around themes of boating, summer, drinking and partying. There are a few thrown in "just because" and songs have rotated in and out of the playlist.  The list below is what the playlist contains as of this writing.  Those of you that follow me over at Fun With Vinyl will probably notice a sharp contrast in the music in this playlist versus the records I post over there.  Well, I do have a wide ranging taste in music and these songs just fit the mood for a lazy south Georgia weekend afternoon on the boat.  We are always on the lookout for "new" songs to add to the playlist that fit our theme so, if you have any suggestions, drop a comment and let me know.
