Shimmering, bubbling synths and a galloping drum machine scream Summer to HERC. How 'bout you?
Six years later, Owl City, the one-man band of Adam Young, released his take on "Such Great Heights" rechristening it "Fireflies". Unlike the prior song, this one was not only a chart topper on the hot 100 but a huge crossover success, making the Top 45 on six Billboard charts.
But Adam/Owl was no Summer One-Hit Wonder, no sir. He teamed up with Carly Rae Jepsen (apologies if you have finally succeeded in ridding your mind of her earworm hit) for a "Good Time", one of the defining Summer Jams of 2012.
Those of us, like HERC, who remember the music from the Summer of 1983 surely recall this shiny Summer duet of Sparks and the Go-Go's Jane Wiedlin which was basically "Good Time" before the two singers of that song were even born.
