To determine the Summer Singles of 1976, HERC tracked fifteen weeks of WLS surveys dated May 29th through September 4th. In 1976, the station trebled their weekly countdown from fifteen to forty-five songs so instead of just featuring all of the songs that made the survey as he has done for the Summers of 1974 and 1975, HERC applied a weighted formula to come up with a list of the Top 45 46 songs from the Summer of 1976 according to WLS Chicago, HERC's Top 40 station of choice back in the day.
