This is the fourth time we've featured Classic Pop on The Hideaway. For their 100th issue, dated January 2026, the magazine's writers (including fan-fave, Annie Zaleski, who literally wrote the book on Duran Duran's Rio) compiled a countdown of the Top 100 Pop Albums – "the greatest albums in the Classic Pop wheelhouse". Subscribers get ALL 100 album covers on the front cover of their issues, in descending order. Beginning with Duran Duran (#1) and ending with Harry Styles (#100).
Non-subscribers get a very different cover and actually have to open the magazine, flip to page 27 to begin the list and then flip-through sixteen pages before they get to Number One, which is still Rio. The writers limited the list to one album per artist which will cause issues for some of us. Is it double-dipping for George Michael to have both Faith and Wham's Fantastic on the list?
Fun fact: Eleven of the Top 100 albums have been issued as discs in the SDE Surround Series of exclusive blu-ray audio discs. Two other albums (Purple Rain and Technique) have been issued as widely available Atmos blu-ray audio discs.
