258 What!?!?!?!? If our monthly scrobbles for August ended on the 24th, we would have wound up with a mind-boggling 240-song tie for the third most listened to song of the month. There was a clear most-listened-to song and a seventeen-way tie for second most-listened-to song, which meant we were still two songs short of the minimum of 20, so we would have ended up with The Hideaway 258. Thankfully, the final week of the month yielded a few scrobbles that broke the logjam and restored a degree of sanity to our monthly personal countdown.
When the dust settled – as well as dust can settle here in the desert – there remained a single most listened-to song with a twenty-one song tie for second most listened-to song, giving us The Hideaway 22. But before we get into the countdown, let's look at a few of the New Release Albums we listened to in August 2025.
There was actually a ninth album that missed picture day in August, the new release from the Deftones. Had we added that album to our collection, we would have given it alternate artwork. As released, it features a green (CD/vinyl) or purple (vinyl) or blue (cassette) cover with a white snake that we find very unsettling, and that's why it's not included in the graphic above. Now you know. Now that we mention it, that John Fogerty cover is no prize either. It looks like a bad photo of a young Steve Martin.
Reversing the downward trend set in July, our scrobbles were slightly up in August 2025 (3,664 vs. 2,903), good enough for the second-most unique monthly scrobbles all-time. (The record holder is June 2025 with 4,476 unique scrobbles.) We always look for trends in our listening, but haven't noticed any worth mentioning. We did notice that one of the songs on this month's countdown appeared on an earlier list: "Hooked On A Feeling" by B.J. Thomas was also on our February countdown. Only two other songs have shown up on more than one monthly countdown this year. It's also worth noting that Tom Petty has been on the past five monthly countdowns with five different songs, with and without the Heartbreakers.
Among the data points tracked by last.fm is when we listen, with each scrobble carrying a date and time stamp. With this info, it's possible to put together the gap between scrobbles of the same song. As of August 31st, the longest such ongoing gap is a tie between two songs from the same 1973 album, first scrobbled on October 24, 2013, and probably won't ever get streamed again here at The Hideaway. That album is Friends, featuring Darryl Cotton, Michael Lloyd, and Steve Kipner. The gap currently stands at 4,329 days; nearly twelve years and counting.
The standing record for the longest gap between scrobbling a song is currently held by Kasabian's "Club Foot". It was the very first song scrobbled when I first signed up at last.fm on December 29, 2006, and wouldn't be scrobbled again until April 9, 2019, some 4,483 days later. Nearly half of that gap was due to the nearly seven years of complete lack of scrobbling from 2006 to 2013 because "Club Foot" is a favorite and gets played regularly.

Our Flashback chart this month is from a few years back and features nine of our favorite songs from AC/DC. According to our analysis in July, AC/DC is our all-time most listened to artist, just ahead of The Beatles. Here's The Hideaway 22 from August 2022:
