As The Hideaway's preferred provider of music videos, TopPop has provided us with dozens of performance videos over the six years of the Hideaway's existence. TopPop aired weekly on the Dutch network ARVO from 1970 to 1988. (Though TopPop was similar in presentation, format and admittedly drew inspiration from BBC's Top Of The Pops, the two series are otherwise unrelated.) Unlike Top Of The Pops, the majority of TopPop performances were filmed in the show's studio without an audience present, with the artists lip-synching their songs. ARVO has done a wonderful job of archiving these performances and is still clearing the rights and uploading performances on a daily basis. For our first ever episode of The Hideaway Music Video Show, we're featuring a baker's dozen of our favorite TopPop performance clips from 1978, in chronological order of their original airing.
