🎧Have You Heard? FADE TO GREY 1980-1984 [2013]🎧

It is no secret that my favorite year for music is 1982. I have written extensively about that year's music and artists and will continue to do so until my last labored breath. 1982 might even be your favorite year for music as it was THE GREATEST YEAR IN MUSIC! EVER! (Suck it 1967!) Sure, I'll stray and I'll explore music from other years like a curious puppy who finds a hole in the backyard fence and makes a break for it but I always come back to the music of 1982 for the comfort that familiarity brings and nourishment of my starved soul. Chances are you have similar feelings towards the music you were listening to when you were sixteen years old. Back in March 2016, we featured a great three-disc compilation from 2011 here on The Hideaway titled Going Underground and in the course of that essay, I mentioned several other worthwhile compilations and box sets including Teenage Kicks 1977-1981: The Music That Changed Everything another triple disc set that shares the same musical period (as well as more than a few songs) covered on Going Underground. Today, we're featuring the follow-up to Teenage Kicks as we celebrate our musical sweet spot with Fade To Grey 1980-1984: The Music That Changed Everything.

Taking its title from the Visage song that is track two on disc 1, Fade To Grey features sixty songs equally spread across the three discs and was released nearly a year after 2012's Teenage Kicks. The bent is decidedly and overwhelmingly UK-oriented though a few Yank acts (Cyndi Lauper, Blondie, and The Cars) also made the cut. For fans of this period of new wave music, there should be no surprises just the convenience of having all of these tracks in one place. You do have to admire the sequencing in places though: Yazoo near Alison Moyet, Heaven 17 following Human League and the inclusion of The Jam, The Style Council and Tracie. Enjoy!
