NOW 60 [US]

Here in the US, the 60th volume in the numerical Now That's What I Call Music series comes out on November 4th. As has been the norm, there are six bonus What's Next tracks appended at the end of the disc's sixteen hits. Unfortunately, NOW! 60 is the third NOW compilation not to feature any Number One hits - the others were NOW! 13 in 2003 and NOW! 20 in 2005. (In case you haven't been playing along at home, there have been just ten different Number One songs on the Billboard Hot 100 chart so far in 2016.) Before we get to the album's playlist, here's a couple of my favorite songs, including one of the What's Next tracks, from the album in music video form.

But wait, there's more! In celebration of hitting the big 60th milestone with this release, the music masterminds at NOW ran an online contest allowing fans of the series to vote for their favorite tracks from NOWs 50-59 with the 14 songs getting the most votes showing up on an exclusive second disc of the NOW! 60 Deluxe Edition. Of the fourteen chosen throwback tracks, I like half of them but the music videos below represent my three favorites of the lot:

In case you're curious, the UK got their NOW! 60 back in March 2005. The double-disc set has 43 tracks including 7 UK chart toppers. In fact, the album contains five of the Top 10 singles on the UK chart from the week of its release including both Number One and Number Two songs taht week. Listen to the official NOW! 60 UK playlist HERE.
Speaking of throwback tracks, another NOW! release here in the US on November 4th is Now That's What I Call Country #1's featuring eighteen Number One country songs from 2005-2015. The best thing about this release is the saturated sunset colors used in the artwork. Out of the 250 chart-topping country hits from 2005 to 2015, somehow these 18 songs made the cut. None of  Taylor Swift's seven Number Ones, none of Florida Georgia Line's three Number Ones and none of Blake Shelton's ten Number One Hot Country Songs during that time made the album. But as you can see in the chart below, the very first song on Now That's What I Call Country #1's failed to go to Number One in the United States.

Some of my favorite artists - Urban, Paisley, and Little Big Town - are represented by some of my least favorite songs of theirs but there are two songs on the album I like:

For a different take, my eighteen favorite Hot Country Songs Number Ones from 2006-2016 can be heard here. (Yeah, I cheated and had to go to 2016 to find my eighteenth track.)
While all of the above compilations are United States releases, there has been some activity over deep in the subterranean levels of NOW! UK HQ as well. Just over two years after the triple disc set Now That's What I Call 21st Century was the October 21st release of Now That's What I Call 20th Century. Other than the tracklist, no other information had been released about this set at the time of writing. Maybe the Eighties-laden compilation is a partnership with The Official Charts Company like NOW! 21st Century was.
