PLAYLISTICLE: Cat Stevens [2021 and 2025]

I mean no disrespect, insult, or injury when I call an artist by the name I know them by. Daryl Hall and John Oates will always be Hall & Oates to me. The music Sananda Maitreya recorded before he changed his name from Terrence Trent D'Arby will always bear the latter credit. And what legal action requires all Eurythmics tracks to be credited to Eurythmics, Annie Lennox, and Dave Stewart? We all know who the Eurythmics are. Don't even get me started on the John Cougar Mellencamp or Wings messes.

Lastly, there is Yusef Islam, the artist forever known to the world as Cat Stevens, a name he used for just over ten years. I have his music recorded as Yusef Islam listed under Yusef, while the music he recorded before 1979 is listed under Cat Stevens. Many of our favorite Cat Stevens tracks were remastered in 2020 and 2021, alongside the 50th Anniversary Edition of Teaser and the Firecat, which followed the 50th Anniversary Edition of Tea For The Tillerman the previous year. To help promote the upgraded sound, specially curated virtual EPs, including fairly recent songs credited to Yusef, were released to the streaming services beginning in February 2021.
