Mixtape Monday: DDD – Greatest Hits Vol. X

Once again, we did things a little differently this time around. We took advantage of some unseasonably cooler weather the other night and listened to today's featured tape out under the stars. Until a light rain began to fall about twenty minutes into Side A. Then we relocated to the covered portion of the patio and continued listening. One thing I can tell you is that every single song was her favorite in 1986.
Tape DDD is the 50th tape in The Somewhat Alphabetical Mixtape Series. Once again, my better half, the woman I originally made these tapes for, was unable to participate in our listening session due to a prior commitment. One of the things I've been doing all along for these very special Mixtape Monday posts is creating a playlist of each tape for her to enjoy whenever, wherever.
As always, the tape is a clean, dang near mint condition TDK SA90. The tabs are unpunched, and only the A Side bears a label. The j-card has the artists written on it in my handwriting, along with a gold star on the spine, indicating that it was part of the Greatest Hits series. As I mentioned above, every single track on this tape was and still may be a favorite of hers. Therefore, we'll dispense with the chatter that usually accompanies each song and simply offer up the album art that each song was pulled from, whether or not it was my album or her album used to dub each song, along with some chart info. Oh, and one more thing: tape DDD is the penultimate tape in
The Somewhat Alphabetical Mixtape Series. The final tape will appear here on The Hideaway on Monday, December 1, 2025.
"Your Wildest Dreams" peaked at number 9 on the Hot 100, number 2 on Mainstream Rock, and Number One on the Adult Contemporary chart. The Other Side Of Life was definitely her album.
"Take Me Home" peaked at number 7 on the Hot 100, number 12 on Mainstream Rock, and number 2 on the Adult Contemporary chart. No Jacket Required was my album. I'm pretty sure she had the cassette.
"Nikita" peaked at number 7 on the Hot 100 and number 3 on the Adult Contemporary chart. Ice On Fire was her album.
"If You Leave" peaked at number 4 on the Hot 100 and number 24 on the Adult Contemporary chart. Both of us had the Pretty In Pink soundtrack album.
"Amanda" peaked at Number One on the Hot 100, Number One on Mainstream Rock, and number 13 on the Adult Contemporary chart. Third Stage was my album.
The 1986 re-recording of "No One Is To Blame" peaked at number 4 on the Hot 100, number 20 on Mainstream Rock, and at Number One on the Adult Contemporary chart. The way I remember it, she bought me the Action Replay EP as a gift.
"Greatest Love Of All" peaked at Number One on both the Hot 100 and the Adult Contemporary chart. Both of us had the Whitney Houston album.
"When I Think Of You" peaked at Number One on the Hot 100 and number 10 on the Adult Contemporary chart. Control was my album, although she had it on cassette.
"Glory Of Love" peaked at Number One on the Hot 100 and on the Adult Contemporary chart. Solitude/Solitaire was her album.
"Broken Wings" peaked at Number One on the Hot 100, number 4 on Mainstream Rock, and number 3 on the Adult Contemporary chart. Welcome To The Real World was my album.

"Never" peaked at number 4 on the Hot 100 and number 2 on Mainstream Rock. We both had Heart.
"West End Girls" peaked at Number One on the Hot 100, number 37 on Mainstream Rock, and number 26 on the Adult Contemporary chart. Please was my album.
"Alive and Kicking' peaked at number 3 on the Hot 100 and number 2 on Mainstream Rock. Once Upon A Time was my album.
No more than a second after "Alive And Kicking" ended, the familiar intro of David Lee Roth's "Goin' Crazy" aka "¡Loco Del Calor!" came on, and when he started singing, it was in Spanish. It faded out after less than a minute. I had borrowed the Sonrisa Salvaje album from a co-worker who had "accidentally" bought it.

I have little doubt that all of these songs are still favorites of hers. I do question why I included so many songs that had been released in 1985 on a tape I labelled as best of '86.
