There are just eleven tracks on Backbeats 017: The Big Apple Bites Back. However, the average length of those tracks is upwards of seven minutes for maximum dancing pleasure. While the music on this disc helps color in the overall dance music picture that is the Backbeats series stated mission, HERC doubts many fans would consider this a crucial or essential disc on its own musical merits. From a musical history viewpoint, the post-disco music on this disc is where acts like Madonna and C+C Music Factory learned to groove, sweat and Vogue. HERC's favorite tracks are Skyy's "Call Me" and the rap/house hybrid hit "I'll House You" by the legendary Jungle Brothers.
