Today, we're featuring this Song Hits Special - Fall 1986, with the big-haired Eighties gussied-up Wilson sisters from Heart on the cover. In addition to regular monthly issues of Song Hits, I had Annuals, Yearbooks, and Super Song Hits issues, but this was the first Song Hits Special in my small collection.
The "WORDS TO OVER 175 SONGS!" claim on the cover checks out, as I counted 178 songs in the table of contents. The songs include tunes from the Sixties (7%), Seventies (25%), and Eighties (68%) up through 1985. The most prevalent year is 1984 (30%) with 54 songs, while the artists with the most songs in this issue are The Beatles with 8 songs, Jackson Browne with 6 songs, and Stevie Wonder with 5 songs. The songs marked with an asterisk in the scans above are similarly marked on their respective pages within the magazine. The handful of pictures in this issue are pixilated, the five artist profiles are brief puff pieces (except for the ZZ Top one which is a short interview with a very sassy Billy Gibbons about the band's latest album, Afterburner) and there are fewer ads in this issue of Song Hits than any of the other issues I've seen. Completely missing from the issue are any songs by ZZ Top or Ozzy Osbourne. I do not have any of the twelve back copies pictured or listed on the back cover.
