Summer In Stereo #84

Birthday wishes go out to the soft rock kid today.  Hope the featured songs are up to his usual high standards.

It was a coin toss as to which of the two songs featured today would receive top billing but all things considered, HERC feels he made the right choice by selecting "Midnight At The Oasis".  This sunny song from 1974 never fails to evoke Summer with its playful lyrics of seduction among Arabian desert imagery. Like a lot of songs, HERC liked "Midnight At The Oasis" before he knew what the lyrics were actually about and he only liked it more afterwards.

Inextricably linked with "Midnight At The Oasis" is Nicolette Larson's "Lotta Love" from 1978.  The song is more serious but by no means any less seductive or romantic than the other one.  Like HERC said, it was a toss-up.  On the Hot 100, "Midnight..." was a #6 song while "Lotta Love" was a #8 song and in 2004 both songs were given a dreadful modern remix treatment on  What Is Hip? Remix Project Vol. 1.

  1. Appreciate the bday shout out. Both of today's songs get the SRK seal of approval, but it's no toss-up in my mind: "Midnight at the Oasis" is the clear winner. Classic.

    1. Good to know that even at your advanced age, you retain full use of your faculties. Hopefully you still have the desire to record your solo album and feature "Oasis" so you can cross that off your bucket list.
