This movie could be really cool. Or not. The songs as performed by the cast could be really great. Or not. We'll just have to wait and see won't we? What is undeniable is the greatness of the source material, those fantastic rock anthems and power ballads of the Eighties. And speaking of power ballads...
Who wants to see THAT as a HERC's mix? Put your lighters up!
HERC's mix of the Rock Of Ages soundtrack features songs used in the Broadway play as well as the motion picture soundtrack with some essential extras. Sadly, several tracks are unavailable on Spotify at this time including the title track and "Pour Some Sugar On Me" in their original versions by Def Leppard and Joan Jett's cover of "I Love Rock N Roll". What? You didn't know it was a cover version? Here's the original:
And while we're on the subject of covers, here's the original of another song featured in Rock Of Ages:
Another band featured on the soundtrack even covered their own song! Twice! Whitesnake originally released "Here I Go Again" on their Saints & Sinners album in 1982. It was a slower, bluesier track at the time. In 1987, Whitesnake leader and vocalist David Coverdale recorded the song again, this time with an inspirational arrangement, with an entirely different backing band for their self-titled comeback album and rode that version all the way to top of the charts. Later that same year, Coverdale cut yet another version of the song with a different drummer and guitarist than the hit version. This "Radio Version" is just different enough that it irks HERC whenever he hears it. The video below is the hit version.
If you're curious, the Broadway cast recording is available on Spotify however it is NOT contained within HERC's mix.
"Rise Up/Gather Round/Rock This Place To The Ground"
